Makeover

Can't bear to repost my last card, affectionately thought of as the "big mess!"  It is here.

And here is the makeover -- with a vertical orientation that works so much better.  The size and orientation of the flower panel on the original card was just so wrong...I also went with a cool color palette.  It's not perfect but I'm happy.

Card Construction Details:

1.  Stamped flowers from Paper Smooches in Memento ink.

2.  Colored flowers with a pale purple and a pale turquoise so that there was a nice even base.

3. Added shading with Prismacolor Pencils.  I'm enjoying that combination lately -- light background with Copics covered with a couple of darker pencils.

4.  Cut out flowers.

5.  Added white Ranger Accents to the flower petals and clear Ranger accents to the heart and set aside to dry.

4.  Stamped flowers and stems on white cardstock, masking a bit.

5.  Stamped sentiment (Paper Smooches Chit Chat). Hightlighted "too kind" with the pale Copic.

6.  Trimmed white panel, adhered to black base and adhered flowers.

7.  Fiddled with some rhinestones from Impress (like these because they really are self adhesive and easy to work with).

8.  Shaded around stems, petals and bottom of flowers with pencils and added a little "ground" with pencils.

9.  Adhered to a card made with A Muse Studio Bermuda cardstock.  **love**

Since I've received a few requests for a mom update -- she likes where she is, knows who I am, but is [empty space here].  I don't know the adjective to describe how she is.  The word that keeps popping up is "crazy" but that sounds so derisive.  No permanent placement yet.  I'll post more when I can find the words to describe all of this.  But a huge THANKs and a shout out to all of you who are going through, or who have gone through, similar situations. 

 

 

Before and After: Balance

Before:  War broke out in this card. The sentiment side doesn't work with the flowers -- dwarfs them and fights for attention.  And the font is not a good match with the flowers. 

The design is unbalanced.  Should my eye rest on the cute heart flowers or the sentiment side?  It's a mess!   (Say goodbye to this one!  I'll remove the rhinestones and salvage as much of the cardstock as possible.)

After:  I had some flowers left (cut in white with the Silhouette on cheapo white cardstock and colored with Copics).  Decided that the flower needed a sweet sentiment in a pretty font, and that, in order for the flower to be the focal point, the size of the sentiment should be fairly small.  Searched and found this one from PTI's Green Thumb.

Tucked the sentiment into the space formed by the leaf.  Rounded the one corner that had a lot of empty space.  Colored the bottom with a Copic after I wrapped the ribbon.

Before and After: Soft Shell

Looks like a 10 minute card but lots of colored shells, backgrounds, etc. Here's 2 of them.

First up is the blue version -- the rectangle is A Muse Studio Sky ink stamped on an acrylic block and then stamped directly on the card stock.  Nice, but the sentiment is not centered.  Will still use this card.

And on this version the sentiment is centered.  Different background. Used one of the Impression Obsession Cover a Card background stamps.  These are amazing and include a variety of classic and not so classic designs.  Wish I had all of them!

Before and After: Oven Fresh Gingerbread Joy

Another makeover!  Both use Oven Fresh Gingerboy Love set from Waltzingmouse -- love these circular sentiments. These will go to a friend who has a little boy and a little girl. Perfect!

Tip:  the ribbon does not wrap through the inside of the card.  Layed down adhesive, put piece of ribbon verticle on the card and then laid down the horizontal piece of ribbon and pressed down on adhesive.  Took verticle piece of ribbon and tied.  Hope this makes sense!

I'll be doing more "before and afters" -- primarily because I don't seem to really "see" a design until it is done.  It is like editing my work in the office.  I can't see the errors until I print out the paper and read the hard copy.
