When we were in Charlottesville, VA last week, I found a little "make you own glass" shop. Mike and Andy generously went off on their own while I spent an hour or so learning how to cut glass and make a frame. The frame holds a 5 x 7 picture (it is blank here). Once a picture is inside, the lines along the edges disappear. The parts that look white are really clear (you are seeing the white paper underneath). The black/green pieces change color when you move the frame. They are kind of shiny.
Very easy. Cut the glass to any shapes you want and glue to frame. That's it. The shop took care of the "fusing" or baking. I had a choice of fusing -- making the frame smooth and roundish with my transparent yellow, red and blackish green pieces inside the clear frame, or my pieces could have sat on top of the clear frame. I chose fusing.
Fuse baby! Love the look. And it is truly one of a kind.
Sorry for the glare on the pic. It is hard to take a picture of glass!

Wow this is a truly unique piece - what a great idea
I'm off to check out "fusing or baking"!
Hope we see more like this - what a great frame for a mirror.

Joan.. this is awesome ~ love your choice of colors. I see people all the time on That's Clever doing glasswork and wonder if it's hard to do. This looks great.

Wow! That's very cool, Joan! We have one of those "paint your own pottery" shops here, but this is a whole other concept and it's a great idea. What fun!

Pretty frame, Joan! Hey, off topic - I walked down Constitution Ave yesterday afternoon with my family, and found myself in front of the Dept of Justice at 5:30pm. I thought, "nah, Joan has gone home for the day."
