Sigh. Another day in the big city.
Mr. DP: How was your day?

Mr. DP: Fine.
3 HOURS LATER . . .
Mr. DP: Hey, guess what I got today?

What a great laugh.....as a resident of Illinois....can you feel our pain? We've known for a very looooong time that this current Gov. would be the next Governor of Illinois to go in front of a judge, but who thought it would be during his tenure?!?!?!? Just goes to show that if you watch Illinois politics long enough, something will shock you! Sorry that you won't be attending the big event on Jan. 20th but what a great guy Mr. DP must be...to even just get the invitation!
Posted by: Susan | December 09, 2008 at 09:45 PM
You know - I almost sent you a message yesterday and today because you hadn't posted in much too long. Then, after much deliberation, I decided the prudent thing to do was to just wait for your next post, albeit with baited breath. Good post, BTW - well worth the wait.

As a fellow Land of Lincoln'er I am with Susan,(except not shocked) but have to add, you are much too nice to be his wife, I mean you talk to people and are much too warm of a person;-)...Mr. DP call the lawyers, and ask if your wife can go in your place, as her blog readers want to "live the experience through her! "

You crack me up! I would so love to be there and I can understand your excitement and you disappointment. Thank you for the laugh, sorry that you will have to settle for watching the inauguration on tv.
Posted by: Brenda | December 09, 2008 at 10:50 PM
Bummer, Joan. That would have been quite a historical event to be present at. Well, at least you can preserve the invitation in a scrapbook . . . LOL! *hugs* JulieHRR

Aaaaghhh!!!!!! That would have been so awesome!! Today I heard that 5 million people were expected... and that the amount of space per person at the mall was estimated to be 1 cubic foot. Yikes!
Posted by: denise:) | December 10, 2008 at 12:21 AM
You do crack me up! I would love to "go" to the inauguration vicariously, so have Mr DP call those lawyers to see if you can go.
Thanks for brightening my day!

I think you should disguise yourself as Mr. DP and go to the Inaguaration on his invitation!

Oh my gosh I sooo feel your disapointment!
Posted by: Lindastamps | December 10, 2008 at 06:10 AM
What a bummer!!!! Hopefully to ease the pain.......you'll see it better on TV.

Too funny! Hope you can sitll find a way to go!!!!!!!! That would be SO awesome to be about to "participate" in history being made!!!!!!!!!!
Posted by: Anne | December 10, 2008 at 09:14 AM
What!! He 'forgot' about it for 3 hours?
Posted by: Juanita | December 10, 2008 at 09:23 AM
Joan, what an ethical man with whom you married! What a tribute to him that he was invited and what a tribute to his ethics that he said no. I just wish we had a world that was full of people as ethical as he! I sure to empathize with your disappointment, but the TV coverage will be a lot more comprehensive than what any one person would see and your living room will be a lot warmer (plus you can stamp during the breaks!) Give him a big hug for me!

I'm bummed for you in a big way, too!!

Oh, man.... what a bummer! Did the 'Dopehead' ask the ethics lawyers yet??! :)
BTW: we've missed you!
Posted by: Barb F | December 10, 2008 at 11:35 AM
I hope somehow it works out for you to go...but if not...what a keepsake!!
Posted by: Rose Ann | December 10, 2008 at 11:56 AM
My DH was like Mike, an ethical lawyer. I am still proud of that and was sure to tell him so. Give Mike a hug for me.
Posted by: marciad | December 10, 2008 at 12:39 PM
LOL This is just too funny!

oooooooooh, that's a good one! Give your husband a hug for being so ethical! Too bad you weren't part of the invite; I would definitely have him ask the ethics lawyers for an opinion if you did have a chance to go.
On the other hand, it is going to be an absolute zoo downtown that day (you really should share some of the local parade of horrible stories that are popping up, like where to park a zillion tour busses, etc.). I for one am not going to watch it on a jumbotron on the mall. I'll be warm and happy watching it at home from just a few miles away. I went to the second Clinton swearing-in wearing long undies under layers of clothing, froze, hardly saw a thing even with binoculars, then walked the entire parade route and could not find a single place to stand and see the parade, so I went home and caught the parade on TV. And they say this one is going to be much worse. So, sad to say, you are probably better off at home that day, if you want to actually see and hear anything.

Thanks for my only laugh of the day. I can always count on your blog to get a smile. Hope you can at least frame the invite. I congratulate Mr. DP.

Okay, I don't get it... how is it unethical?
Posted by: tkaiser | December 10, 2008 at 11:17 PM
Ah, shucks, sure wish it could have worked out for you both to go...but "what will be, will be" I guess!
It was surely exciting for Mr. D.P. to get the invitation, though! How fun! My Grandmother got an invitation to Charles and Diana's wedding (as a member of the Magna Charta Dames) and the housekeeper threw it away...AUGH! I did get to see it though, and that was quite memorable!

If you were the wife of the Governor of Illinois, apparently that conversation would have sounded like it came out of a trucker's mouth rather than a woman with three small kids at home! aah... the joys of living in Illinois. We get to produce the next great president and the worst governor in history.. all in one year! :)
thanks for sharing! Liz

Arrrrrhhhhh! I love it! The governor of Illinois doesn't deserve you....nor anyone else with any dignity. What a jerk!
